theme switcher update

both light and dark themes on my website have been set to the correct colors after however many months. go take a look if you want

i wanted to touch on the header images used in them as a fun bonus

these pictures are both shots from the ending of the anime no.6. i've used the pink blossoms as a header on other stuff, so it seemed like a no-brainer, especially considering the colors i'd chosen. when i was thinking about adding a dark theme i went back to the ending and looked for a shot that would work best for a dark theme palette. i landed on footsteps in the snow

fun fact: footsteps in the snow is the first shot of the ending, and pink blossoms is the last shot. i find it a bit poetic

no.6 is a class struggle type story. the protagonist shion, who lives a very privileged life with the best luxuries and guaranteed success, provides shelter to a runaway named nezumi, and they quickly bond. but when the government finds out about this, he's given a criminal record, and essentially all his privilege is revoked. some years later he's working as a guy in a park where he witnesses the death of his coworker by way of mysterious wasp. nezumi comes back to whisk shion away to his own dwellings, a slums-like city outside the capital inhabited by the less fortunate citizens.. shion is a sweetheart and wants to stop the wasp infection, but nezumi wants him to see the world for what it is, and not waste energy on trying to save the privileged people in the capital; which causes them to butt heads

no.6 is obscure, confusing, and maybe in some places, bad. but i watched it when i was very young and it's a series i keep close to my heart. there's gay people in it and also every other episode you feel like your heart is being ripped out. highly recommended tbh

light theme palette is based on tibby (seen below), my sona. as much as i love yellow it is far from the best color for web design so i added some hues from tibby's palette (pastel green, red, orange) to make it a bit more coherent and give it the tangy fruit vibe

dark theme palette is based on cykes (seen below). i made cykes as sort of an anti-thesis sona. he's the blue to tibby's orange, the moon to its sun, the lazy to its diligent, etc. settling on the header for the dark theme gave me a strong inclination towards blue (the color of cykes' body), which i then rounded off using purple as a complement

still need to make a proper ref for her. i'll get to it eventually

thank you for reading! check out this song that makes me want to cry whenever i hear it
